Bark scavenger hunt

Use this to help you connect to our trees a little more deeply on your next wander in the bush.

FUNGi scavenger hunt

Fungus is amazing. It is not a plant or an animal, but exists in its own kingdom. While 120, 000 species have been described by scientists, it is estimated that there are between 2 and 4 million in existance. They are very important for controlling erosion and for helping dead plants to break down. They help clean toxins out of the soil and help deliver nutrients to the trees. They even act as a natural pesticide and can control destructive insects. While a few are edible and even used in medicine, most of the fungi we find in the bush are poisonous and shouldn’t be touched.

Enjoy finding some of these common types of fungi in your local bushland!

winter Flowers scavenger hunt

These flowers are all indigenous plants that flower in winter. So print off this sheet for your next exercise session and see if you can find some in your local bushland. The second page includes some interesting little facts about each plant for anyone who wants to know a bit more!

EDIBLE WEEDS scavenger hunt

It’s great fun to go foraging in your garden or local bushland area for these edible weeds. Take care though - if you aren’t certain about what something is, just enjoy looking at it, rather than tasting it! Check out the second page of the PDF to see some notes on each weed. If you are keen to learn more, the Weed Forager’s Handbook (2012) by Adam Grubb and Annie Raser-Rowland is a great guide to get you started.
